Example 1: Advertising Websites
These are both websites which aim to cash in on this desire to be special or unique, and the desire to avoid the consequences of not succeeding in that. They offer services the promise you some level of outreach, notoriety, fame, and more if you buy their service. This is directly tempting people’s competitive nature, telling you that you will be able to achieve your dreams if you pay for these services to help you. These types of services only exist and thrive because people feel pushed down, and want to get a leg up to create a unique identity.

Example 2: Videos on The Desire to be Unique
These two videos both directly address the topics of youths and individuals in today’s modern age having this desire to be special. They discuss that the cause is much the same as things I said, that being how pride and ego lead to this, but that these things are part of most people naturally and so it is hard to overcome the desire. It just goes to show how influential this desire to be unique in today’s age is, and how people are asking channels to talk about it like this.

Example 3: Reddit Post on Desire to be Special
This reddit post displays all the points in my research very well. It is an individual who has this desire to be unique, and daydreams about it, but is confused why he feels that way. What is truly interesting here is the comments on this post. All of the comments are people pretty much agreeing with him, some even saying that it is just “human nature” to want this, which is fascinating to see how many people feel this way. It really does show just how prevalent this desire is and how much people want to have a unique identity among the world.
